Amanar-Rasool Ki Tafseer in Urdu & English (Last 2 Ayahs of Surah Al-Baqarah 2:285–286)
The final two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah (آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ... — Quran 2:285–286) hold a status unlike almost any other passage in the Qur'an. Unlike the rest of the Qur'an which was brought down by Jibril (AS) on earth, Sahih Muslim (173) records that these two closing verses were gifted directly to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ during the Night of Ascension (Shab-e-Mi'raj) from a treasure beneath the Divine Throne (Kanz tahta al-'Arsh). Furthermore, in Sahih Muslim (125 & 126), whenever the believers recite the supplications at the end of verse 286 ("Rabbana la tu'akhidhna..."), Allah Almighty personally responds after every single petition: "Qad fa'altu!" (I have done so / I have granted it!).

Shan-e-Nuzool: How "Sami'na Wa Ata'na" Brought Instant Relief (Sahih Muslim 125)
In Sahih Muslim (125), Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that when verse 284 was revealed ("Whether you disclose what is in your souls or conceal it, Allah will call you to account for it"), the Companions felt immense distress because involuntary Passing thoughts (wasawis) are beyond human control. When they came to the Prophet ﷺ, he advised them: "Do not say as the People of the Two Scriptures before you said ('We hear and we disobey'); rather say: 'Sami'na wa ata'na, ghufranaka Rabbana wa ilaykal-maseer' (We hear and we obey; Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return)!" As soon as their tongues and hearts submitted with these words, Allah revealed verses 285 and 286: "Allah does not burden any soul beyond its capacity..." and pardoned involuntary thoughts and mistakes!
What Does "Kafatahu" (They Will Suffice Him) Mean in Sahih al-Bukhari 5009?
Regarding the Prophet's ﷺ promise "Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him (kafatahu)" (Bukhari 5009, Muslim 807), Imam An-Nawawi and Hafiz Ibn Hajar (in Fath al-Bari) mention four complementary meanings: (1) they suffice him as protection against Shaytan and all harm that night; (2) they suffice him as a minimum night recitation if he is unable to pray long Tahajjud; (3) they suffice him in affirming complete Iman and comprehensive Dua; and (4) they suffice him in earning immense nightly reward.
