سورۃ الکوثر قرآنِ مجید کی سب سے چھوٹی مگر معانی اور بشارت کے اعتبار سے عظیم ترین سورت ہے جس میں ۳ آیات ہیں۔ جب کفارِ مکہ نے نبی کریم ﷺ کے صاحبزادے کی وفات پر آپ ﷺ کو "ابتر" (بے نام و نشان) کہہ کر طعنہ دیا تو اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ سورت نازل فرما کر آپ ﷺ کو خیرِ کثیر اور جنت کی نہر حوضِ کوثر کی خوشخبری سنائی، اور شکرانے کے طور پر نماز اور قربانی کا حکم دیا۔
Authentic Hadith on the Revelation of Surah Al-Kawthar & Haud-e-Kawthar
سورۃ الکوثر کا شانِ نزول اور حوضِ کوثر کی صحیح حدیثAnas ibn Malik (RA) reported in Sahih Muslim (400): "While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was among us in the mosque, he dozed off briefly and then raised his head smiling. We asked, 'What has made you smile, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'A Surah has just been revealed to me,' and he recited: Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim. Inna a'taynaka al-Kawthar. Fasalli li-Rabbika wanhar. Inna shani'aka huwal-abtar. Then he asked, 'Do you know what Al-Kawthar is?' We said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He said: 'Indeed, it is a river that my Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, has promised me, upon which there is abundant good (khayrun kathir), and it is a cistern (Haud) to which my Ummah will come on the Day of Resurrection; its vessels are as numerous as the stars in the sky.'"
صحیح مسلم (400) میں حضرت انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ ایک دن رسول اللہ ﷺ مسجد میں ہمارے درمیان تشریف فرما تھے کہ آپ ﷺ نے مسکراتے ہوئے سرِ اقدس اٹھایا اور فرمایا: "ابھی ابھی مجھ پر ایک سورت نازل ہوئی ہے" پھر آپ ﷺ نے بسم اللہ سمیت سورۃ الکوثر تلاوت فرمائی اور پوچھا: "کیا تم جانتے ہو کوثر کیا ہے؟ وہ ایک نہر ہے جس کا میرے رب عزوجل نے مجھ سے وعدہ فرمایا ہے، اس پر خیرِ کثیر ہے اور وہ قیامت کے دن میرا حوض ہے جس کے برتن آسمان کے ستاروں کی تعداد کے برابر ہیں۔"
Meaning of "Al-Kawthar" according to Ibn Abbas (RA) in Sahih al-Bukhari
صحیح بخاری کے مطابق "الکوثر" (خیرِ کثیر) کا مفہومIn Sahih al-Bukhari (4966 & 6578), Abdullah ibn 'Abbas (RA) explained that Al-Kawthar means "the abundant good (al-khayr al-kathir) which Allah gave to the Prophet ﷺ"—and when Sa'id ibn Jubayr noted that people say it is a river in Paradise, Ibn 'Abbas replied: "The river in Paradise is part of the abundant good which Allah gave him!"
صحیح بخاری (4966) میں حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما فرماتے ہیں کہ "الکوثر" سے مراد وہ خیرِ کثیر (بے شمار بھلائی، نبوت، قرآن، شفاعت اور بلند ذکر) ہے جو اللہ نے آپ ﷺ کو عطا فرمائی، اور جنت کی نہر حوضِ کوثر بھی اسی خیرِ کثیر کا حصہ ہے۔
