Historical Virtue: The Surah That Moved King Najashi to Tears
سورۃ مریم کی تاریخی عظمت — نجاشی کے دربار میں حضرت جعفر طیار رضی اللہ عنہ کی تلاوتIn Musnad Ahmad (1740, graded Sahih), when the migrated Muslims in Abyssinia were questioned by the Christian King Najashi (Negus) about Jesus and Mary, Ja'far ibn Abi Talib (RA) recited the opening passage of Surah Maryam (Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ayn-Sad). Najashi and his bishops wept until their beards were wet with tears, and Najashi declared: "Indeed, this revelation and that which Musa brought come from the very same niche of light!"
مسند احمد (1740 — صحیح) میں ام المومنین حضرت ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ ہجرتِ حبشہ کے موقع پر جب حبشہ کے بادشاہ نجاشی نے مسلمانوں سے حضرت عیسیٰ اور سیدہ مریم علیہما السلام کے بارے میں پوچھا تو حضرت جعفر بن ابی طالب رضی اللہ عنہ نے سورۃ مریم کی ابتدائی آیات تلاوت فرمائیں، جسے سن کر نجاشی اور اس کے علماء کی آنکھوں سے آنسو جاری ہو گئے اور وہ پکار اٹھے کہ یہ کلام اور حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام پر نازل ہونے والا کلام ایک ہی چراغ کے نور سے نکلے ہیں!
Why Surah Maryam is Recited for Aulad & Expectant Mothers
نیک اولاد اور حمل میں آسانی کے لیے سورۃ مریم کی تلاوتSurah Maryam teaches that no medical or physical barrier is difficult for Allah: Zakariyya (AS) was elderly and his wife was barren, yet Allah answered his prayer with Yahya (AS) and said "Huwa 'alayya hayyin" (It is easy for Me — 19:9); and when Maryam (AS) experienced the severe pains of labor, Allah comforted her heart and granted her ease and provision (19:23–26).
سورۃ مریم ہمیں یقین دلاتی ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کے لیے کوئی چیز ناممکن نہیں: حضرت زکریا علیہ السلام کے بڑھاپے اور اہلیہ کے بانجھ پن کے باوجود اللہ نے فرمایا: "هُوَ عَلَيَّ هَيِّنٌ" (یہ میرے لیے بالکل آسان ہے — آیت ۹)، اور سیدہ مریم علیہا السلام کو وضعِ حمل کی تکلیف میں فرمایا: "اَلَّا تَحْزَنِيْ" (غم نہ کرو — آیت ۲۴)۔

سورۃ مریم (آیت ۱ تا ۱۱) — حضرت زکریا علیہ السلام کی نیک اولاد کے لیے مقبول دعا✨ تلاوت اور فضیلت: نیک اولاد کے لیے اس پیراگراف کی تلاوت کے ساتھ آیت ۵ اور ۶ ("فَهَبْ لِيْ مِنْ لَّدُنْكَ وَلِيًّا... وَاجْعَلْهُ رَبِّ رَضِيًّا") کو اپنی دعا میں شامل کریں۔

Tilawat • Quran 19:1–11 (11 Ayahs)
Qari Mishary Rashid Alafasy
Roman Urdu / Transliteration: Kaaaf-Haa-Yaa-'Ayyyn-Saaad. Zikru rahmati Rabbika 'abdahooo Zakariyyaa. Iz naadaa Rabbahoo nidaaa'an khafiyyaa. Qaala Rabbi innee wahanal-'azmu minnee washta'alar-ra'su shaybaw-wa lam akum-bidu'aaa'ika Rabbi shaqiyyaa. Wa innee khiftul-mawaaliya miw-waraaa'ee wa kaanatim-ra'atee 'aaqiran fahab lee mil-ladunka waliyyaa. Yarisunee wa yarisu min aali Ya'qooba waj'alhu Rabbi radiyyaa. Yaa Zakariyyaaa innaa nubashshiruka bighulaamin-ismuhoo Yahyaa lam naj'al-lahoo min qablu samiyyaa. Qaala Rabbi annaa yakoonu lee ghulaamuw-wa kaanatim-ra'atee 'aaqiraw-wa qad balaghtu minal-kibari 'itiyyaa. Qaala kazaalika qaala Rabbuka huwa 'alayya hayyinuw-wa qad khalaqtuka min qablu wa lam taku shay'aa. Qaala Rabbij-'al-leee aayah; qaala aayatuka allaa tukalliman-naasa salaasa layaalin sawiyyaa. Fakharaja 'alaa qawmihee minal-mihraabi fa-awhaaa ilayhim an sabbihoo bukrataw-wa 'ashiyyaa.
اردو ترجمہ: کٰہٰیٰعٰصٓ۔ یہ آپ کے رب کی اس رحمت کا ذکر ہے جو اس نے اپنے بندے زکریا پر فرمائی۔ جب انہوں نے اپنے رب کو چپکے چپکے پکارا۔ عرض کیا: اے میرے رب! بے شک میری ہڈیاں کمزور ہو گئیں اور بڑھاپے سے سر سفید ہو کر چمکنے لگا، اور اے میرے رب! میں تجھ سے دعا مانگ کر کبھی محروم نہیں رہا۔ اور بے شک میں اپنے بعد اپنے رشتہ داروں سے ڈرتا ہوں اور میری بیوی بانجھ ہے، پس تو مجھے خاص اپنے پاس سے ایک وارث (فرزند) عطا فرما۔ جو میرا بھی وارث ہو اور آلِ یعقوب کا بھی وارث بنے، اور اے میرے رب! اسے پسندیدہ (نیک بخت) بنا۔ (ارشاد ہوا:) اے زکریا! بے شک ہم تمہیں ایک لڑکے کی خوشخبری دیتے ہیں جس کا نام یحییٰ ہے، ہم نے اس سے پہلے اس کا کوئی ہم نام نہیں بنایا۔ انہوں نے عرض کیا: اے میرے رب! میرے ہاں لڑکا کیسے ہوگا حالانکہ میری بیوی بانجھ ہے اور میں خود بڑھاپے کی انتہائی کمزوری کو پہنچ چکا ہوں؟ فرمایا: ایسا ہی ہوگا، تمہارے رب نے فرمایا ہے کہ یہ میرے لیے بالکل آسان ہے، اور اس سے پہلے میں نے تمہیں بھی تو پیدا کیا تھا جب تم کچھ بھی نہ تھے۔ عرض کیا: اے میرے رب! میرے لیے کوئی نشانی مقرر فرما دے، فرمایا: تمہاری نشانی یہ ہے کہ تم بھلے چنگے ہونے کے باوجود تین راتوں تک لوگوں سے بات نہ کر سکو گے۔ پس وہ حجرۂ عبادت سے اپنی قوم کے پاس نکلے اور انہیں اشارے سے ہدایت کی کہ صبح اور شام اللہ کی تسبیح بیان کرتے رہو۔
English Meaning: Kaf, Ha, Ya, 'Ayn, Sad. [This is] a recital of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah when he called to his Lord a private call [saying], "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]." [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.'" He said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound." So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon.

Surah Maryam Verses 16–26 — Comfort in Labor Pains ("Alla Tahzani")
سورۃ مریم (آیت ۱۶ تا ۲۶) — سیدہ مریم علیہا السلام کا واقعہ اور وضعِ حمل میں آسانی✨ تلاوت اور فضیلت: یہ آیات حاملہ خواتین کے لیے ذہنی سکون اور آسانی کا پیغام ہیں، اور طبِ نبوی و قرآنی اشارے کے مطابق حمل اور ولادت کے وقت کھجور (رطب) کا استعمال بے حد مفید ہے۔
وَاذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتٰبِ مَرْيَمَ اِذِ انْتَبَذَتْ مِنْ اَهْلِهَا مَكَانًا شَرْقِيًّا فَاتَّخَذَتْ مِنْ دُوْنِهِمْ حِجَابًا فَاَرْسَلْنَآ اِلَيْهَا رُوْحَنَا فَتَمَثَّلَ لَهَا بَشَرًا سَوِيًّا قَالَتْ اِنِّيْٓ اَعُوْذُ بِالرَّحْمٰنِ مِنْكَ اِنْ كُنْتَ تَقِيًّا قَالَ اِنَّمَآ اَنَا رَسُوْلُ رَبِّكِ لِاَهَبَ لَكِ غُلٰمًا زَكِيًّا قَالَتْ اَنّٰى يَكُوْنُ لِيْ غُلٰمٌ وَّلَمْ يَمْسَسْنِيْ بَشَرٌ وَّلَمْ اَكُ بَغِيًّا قَالَ كَذٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ هُوَ عَلَيَّ هَيِّنٌ وَلِنَجْعَلَهٗٓ اٰيَةً لِّلنَّاسِ وَرَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَكَانَ اَمْرًا مَّقْضِيًّا فَحَمَلَتْهُ فَانْتَبَذَتْ بِهٖ مَكَانًا قَصِيًّا فَاَجَآءَهَا الْمَخَاضُ اِلٰى جِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِ قَالَتْ يٰلَيْتَنِيْ مِتُّ قَبْلَ هٰذَا وَكُنْتُ نَسْيًا مَّنْسِيًّا فَنَادٰىهَا مِنْ تَحْتِهَآ اَلَّا تَحْزَنِيْ قَدْ جَعَلَ رَبُّكِ تَحْتَكِ سَرِيًّا وَهُزِّيْٓ اِلَيْكِ بِجِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِ تُسٰقِطْ عَلَيْكِ رُطَبًا جَنِيًّا فَكُلِيْ وَاشْرَبِيْ وَقَرِّيْ عَيْنًا

Roman Urdu / Transliteration: Wazkur fil-Kitaabi Maryama izin-tabazat min ahlihaa makaanan sharqiyyaa. Fattakhazat min doonihim hijaaban fa-arsalnaaa ilayhaa Roohanaa fatamassala lahaa basharan sawiyyaa. Qaalat inneee a'oozu bir-Rahmaani minka in kunta taqiyyaa. Qaala innamaaa ana rasoolu Rabbiki li-ahaba laki ghulaaman zakiyyaa. Qaalat annaa yakoonu lee ghulaamuw-wa lam yamsasnee basharuw-wa lam aku baghiyyaa. Qaala kazaaliki qaala Rabbuki huwa 'alayya hayyinuw-wa linaj'alahooo aayatal-lin-naasi wa rahmatam-minnaa; wa kaana amram-maqdiyyaa. Fahamalat-hu fantabazat bihee makaanan qasiyyaa. Fa-ajaaa'ahal-makhaadu ilaa jiz'in-nakhlati qaalat yaa laytanee mittu qabla haazaa wa kuntu nasyam-mansiyyaa. Fanaadaahaa min tahtihaaa allaa tahzanee qad ja'ala Rabbuki tahtaki sariyyaa. Wa huzzeee ilayki bijiz'in-nakhlati tusaaqit 'alayki rutaban janiyyaa. Fakulee washrabee wa qarree 'aynaa.
اردو ترجمہ: اور کتاب میں مریم کا ذکر کیجئے، جب وہ اپنے گھر والوں سے الگ ہو کر مشرقی جانب ایک جگہ چلی گئیں۔ پس انہوں نے ان کی طرف سے ایک پردہ کر لیا، تو ہم نے ان کی طرف اپنا روح (جبریل) بھیجا، سو وہ ان کے سامنے ایک پورے انسان کی شکل میں ظاہر ہوا۔ مریم نے کہا: اگر تو پرہیزگار ہے تو میں تجھ سے رحمٰن کی پناہ مانگتی ہوں۔ اس (فرشتے) نے کہا: میں تو صرف تیرے رب کا بھیجا ہوا قاصد ہوں تاکہ تجھے ایک پاکیزہ لڑکا عطا کروں۔ مریم نے کہا: میرے ہاں لڑکا کیسے ہو سکتا ہے حالانکہ مجھے کسی بشر نے چھوا تک نہیں اور نہ میں بدکار ہوں۔ اس نے کہا: ایسا ہی ہوگا، تیرے رب نے فرمایا ہے کہ یہ میرے لیے بالکل آسان ہے، اور تاکہ ہم اسے لوگوں کے لیے ایک نشانی اور اپنی طرف سے رحمت بنائیں، اور یہ ایک طے شدہ بات ہے۔ پس وہ اس (بچے) سے حاملہ ہو گئیں اور اسے لے کر ایک دور کی جگہ چلی گئیں۔ پھر دردِ زہ انہیں کھجور کے ایک تنے کی طرف لے آیا، وہ بے قرار ہو کر کہنے لگیں: کاش! میں اس سے پہلے ہی مر گئی ہوتی اور بالکل بھولی بسری ہو جاتی۔ تو فرشتے نے ان کے نیچے سے آواز دی کہ غم نہ کرو، تمہارے رب نے تمہارے پاؤں تلے ایک چشمہ جاری کر دیا ہے۔ اور کھجور کے تنے کو اپنی طرف ہلاؤ، وہ تم پر تازہ پکی ہوئی کھجوریں گرا دے گا۔ پس کھاؤ اور پیو اور اپنی آنکھیں ٹھنڈی رکھو۔
English Meaning: And mention, [O Muhammad], in the Book [the story of] Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a place toward the east. And she took, in seclusion from them, a screen. Then We sent to her Our Angel, and he represented himself to her as a well-proportioned man. She said, "Indeed, I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you, [so leave me], if you should be fearing of Allah." He said, "I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy." She said, "How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?" He said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.'" So she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a remote place. And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, "Oh, I wish I had died before this and was in oblivion, forgotten." But he called her from below her, "Do not grieve; your Lord has provided beneath you a stream. And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates. So eat and drink and be contented."

سورۃ مریم (آیت ۳۰ تا ۳۶) — گود میں حضرت عیسیٰ علیہ السلام کا کلام اور خالص توحید✨ تلاوت اور فضیلت: آیت ۳۱ اور ۳۲ میں نیک اور بابرکت اولاد کی کامل صفات ہیں: ہر جگہ بابرکت ہونا، نماز و زکوٰۃ کا پابند ہونا اور والدین کا فرمانبردار ہونا۔
قَالَ اِنِّيْ عَبْدُ اللّٰهِ اٰتٰنِيَ الْكِتٰبَ وَجَعَلَنِيْ نَبِيًّا وَّجَعَلَنِيْ مُبٰرَكًا اَيْنَ مَا كُنْتُ وَاَوْصٰنِيْ بِالصَّلٰوةِ وَالزَّكٰوةِ مَا دُمْتُ حَيًّا وَّبَرًّاۢ بِوَالِدَتِيْ وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْنِيْ جَبَّارًا شَقِيًّا وَالسَّلٰمُ عَلَيَّ يَوْمَ وُلِدْتُّ وَيَوْمَ اَمُوْتُ وَيَوْمَ اُبْعَثُ حَيًّا ذٰلِكَ عِيْسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ قَوْلَ الْحَقِّ الَّذِيْ فِيْهِ يَمْتَرُوْنَ مَا كَانَ لِلّٰهِ اَنْ يَّتَّخِذَ مِنْ وَّلَدٍ سُبْحٰنَهٗ اِذَا قَضٰٓى اَمْرًا فَاِنَّمَا يَقُوْلُ لَهٗ كُنْ فَيَكُوْنُ وَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ رَبِّيْ وَرَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُوْهُ هٰذَا صِرَاطٌ مُّسْتَقِيْمٌ

Roman Urdu / Transliteration: Qaala innee 'Abdul-laahi aataaniyal-Kitaaba wa ja'alanee Nabiyyaa. Wa ja'alanee mubaarakan ayna maa kuntu wa awsaanee bis-Salaati waz-Zakaati maa dumtu hayyaa. Wa barram-biwaalidatee wa lam yaj'alnee jabbaaran shaqiyyaa. Was-salaamu 'alayya yawma wulittu wa yawma amootu wa yawma ub'asu hayyaa. Zaalika 'Eesab-nu Maryama qawlal-haqqil-lazee feehi yamtaroon. Maa kaana lillaahi ay-yattakhiza miw-waladin Subhaanahoo izaa qadaaa amran fa-innamaa yaqoolu lahoo Kun Fayakoon. Wa innal-laaha Rabbee wa Rabbukum fa'budoohu haazaa Siraatum-Mustaqeem.
اردو ترجمہ: بچے (عیسیٰ علیہ السلام) نے پکار کر کہا: بے شک میں اللہ کا بندہ ہوں، اس نے مجھے کتاب عطا فرمائی ہے اور مجھے نبی بنایا ہے۔ اور میں جہاں کہیں بھی ہوں اس نے مجھے بابرکت بنایا ہے، اور جب تک میں زندہ رہوں اس نے مجھے نماز اور زکوٰۃ کی تاکید فرمائی ہے۔ اور مجھے اپنی والدہ کے ساتھ نیک سلوک کرنے والا بنایا ہے اور مجھے سرکش اور بدبخت نہیں بنایا۔ اور مجھ پر سلام ہے جس دن میں پیدا ہوا اور جس دن مجھے موت آئے گی اور جس دن میں زندہ کر کے اٹھایا جاؤں گا۔ یہ ہیں عیسیٰ ابنِ مریم، اور یہی حق بات ہے جس میں لوگ شک کرتے ہیں۔ اللہ کی شان کے لائق نہیں کہ وہ کسی کو اولاد بنائے، وہ پاک ہے، جب وہ کسی کام کا فیصلہ فرماتا ہے تو بس اسے حکم دیتا ہے کہ "ہو جا" تو وہ ہو جاتا ہے۔ اور بے شک اللہ ہی میرا رب ہے اور تمہارا بھی رب ہے، پس تم اسی کی عبادت کرو، یہی سیدھا راستہ ہے۔
English Meaning: [Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah as long as I remain alive and [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant. And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive." That is Jesus, the son of Mary—the word of truth about which they are in dispute. It is not [befitting] for Allah to take a son; exalted is He! When He decrees an affair, He only says to it, "Be," and it is. [Jesus said], "And indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path."

Surah Maryam Verses 93–98 — "Sayaj'alu lahumur-Rahmanu wudda"
سورۃ مریم (آیت ۹۳ تا ۹۸) — ایمان والوں کے لیے رحمٰن کی طرف سے محبت اور مقبولیت✨ تلاوت اور فضیلت: آیت ۹۶ ("اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ سَيَجْعَلُ لَهُمُ الرَّحْمٰنُ وُدًّا") کی تفسیر میں صحیح بخاری (6040) کی حدیث ہے کہ جب اللہ کسی بندے سے محبت فرماتا ہے تو جبریل علیہ السلام اور آسمان والوں کے دلوں میں اور پھر زمین والوں کے دلوں میں اس کی محبت اور قبولیت ڈال دیتا ہے۔
اِنْ كُلُّ مَنْ فِي السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِ اِلَّآ اٰتِي الرَّحْمٰنِ عَبْدًا لَقَدْ اَحْصٰىهُمْ وَعَدَّهُمْ عَدًّا وَكُلُّهُمْ اٰتِيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِ فَرْدًا اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ سَيَجْعَلُ لَهُمُ الرَّحْمٰنُ وُدًّا فَاِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لِتُبَشِّرَ بِهِ الْمُتَّقِيْنَ وَتُنْذِرَ بِهٖ قَوْمًا لُّدًّا وَكَمْ اَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُمْ مِّنْ قَرْنٍ هَلْ تُحِسُّ مِنْهُمْ مِّنْ اَحَدٍ اَوْ تَسْمَعُ لَهُمْ رِكْزًا

Roman Urdu / Transliteration: In kullu man fis-samaawaati wal-ardi illaaa aatir-Rahmaani 'abdaa. Laqad ahsaahum wa 'addahum 'addaa. Wa kulluhum aateehi Yawmal-Qiyaamati fardaa. Innal-lazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus-saalihaati sayaj'alu lahumur-Rahmaanu wuddaa. Fa-innamaa yassarnaahu bilisaanika litubashshira bihil-muttaqeena wa tunzira bihee qawmal-luddaa. Wa kam ahlaknaa qablahum min qarnin hal tuhissu minhum min ahadin aw tasma'u lahum rikzaa.
اردو ترجمہ: آسمانوں اور زمین میں جو کوئی بھی ہے وہ رحمٰن کے حضور بندہ بن کر ہی حاضر ہونے والا ہے۔ بے شک اس نے ان سب کا احاطہ کر رکھا ہے اور انہیں ایک ایک کر کے گن رکھا ہے۔ اور ان میں سے ہر ایک قیامت کے دن اس کے پاس اکیلا حاضر ہوگا۔ بے شک جو لوگ ایمان لائے اور انہوں نے نیک اعمال کیے عنقریب رحمٰن ان کے لیے (دلوں میں) محبت پیدا فرما دے گا۔ پس ہم نے اس قرآن کو آپ کی زبان میں اسی لیے آسان کر دیا ہے تاکہ آپ اس کے ذریعے پرہیزگاروں کو خوشخبری دیں اور جھگڑالو لوگوں کو اس سے ڈرائیں۔ اور ہم نے ان سے پہلے کتنی ہی بستیاں ہلاک کر دیں، کیا آپ ان میں سے کسی ایک کی بھی آہٹ پاتے ہیں یا ان کی کوئی بھنک سنتے ہیں؟
English Meaning: There is no one in the heavens and earth but that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant. He has enumerated them and counted them a [full] counting. And all of them are coming to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone. Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds—the Most Merciful will appoint for them affection. So, [O Muhammad], We have only made Qur'an easy in your tongue that you may give good tidings thereby to the righteous and warn thereby a hostile people. And how many have We destroyed before them of generations? Do you perceive of them anyone or hear from them a sound?
